No Need to Fear Your Dentist

Posted .

Historically, some people have long had a fear of dentists and dental procedures. Admittedly, dental surgery was not very comfortable in the early days. Lack of powerful anesthetics and the fact that dental tools may have reminded people of another less reputable profession (usually carried out in a medieval dungeon) may have added to the fear factor.

Well, today’s modern dentistry should never be compared with such horrible things! Advances in tools, methods, and medicine have made taking care of your teeth a near-painless occupation.

While few people actually look forward to appointments for any type of medical care, pain should never again be the reason that someone might neglect to seek proper preventative dental care–or even emergency care.

Still, there are many who cannot control their anxiety. In these cases, it is good to know that most dentists have had some sort of training to handle fearful patients, and they have a multitude of options at their disposal to eliminate pain, calm nervousness, and alleviate fear for patients in the dentist’s chair.

Comfort Options:

In our office, a dental visit could be compared to a relaxing spa day! We have comfortable blankets, pillows, streaming music and videos, and a calm atmosphere to help you feel safer and less anxious. We care about how you are feeling and place a high priority on communication before, during, and after your visit.

Anesthetics and Sedation:

Dr. Hockel, Dr. Jardine, and Dr. Adair have several sedation options and will use them readily in even the most simple procedures in order to keep you calm and stress-free. From laughing gas to anti-anxiety medication, whatever you need can be administered if necessary. For those patients who would prefer to be completely “asleep” for dental procedures, we offer the option of general anesthesia so you can take care of your smile without fear.

If you are anxious about seeing the dentist, Dr. Brian Hockel, Dr. Rebecca Jardine, and Dr. Kevin Adair would be happy to help you by alleviating your concerns. Please contact us by calling 925-478-7776, or come by our office in Walnut Creek, California, today!
